Pawn Shops Safeguard Themselves against Thieves; Pawn Shops Safe Place to Receive Cash for Gold

With today’s weakened economy and the downsizing of many companies, there are many individuals who thought they would never step foot it in a pawn shop who are now frequently visiting these quick cash companies in order to help them when their wallets are empty and they need cash for whatever reason.
These people are now monthly visitors to their local pawn shop in order to sell gold for cash so that they can make ends meet, paying an extra bill or pay for an unexpected emergency bill like a broken car or a medical bill that was unanticipated.
During the 60s, 70s and 80s, pawn shops received a bad name because many thieves brought stolen items into the pawn shops for quick cash and as a place to rid themselves of the stolen items. Today, in many states, it is a requirement that every pawn shop fax a list of each and every item collected that day to the local police department along with the names, addresses and phone numbers of the individuals who pawned the item. This is one of the safeguards against stolen property being accepted by unsuspecting pawn shop owners.
In order to pawn a valuable item, no matter what the item is, a person must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid photo ID and a working phone number. All of this information is taken down by the pawn shop owner or worker before handing over the cash for the valuable and then this information is shared with the local police department as a precautionary measure for stolen property.
According to one pawn shop owner, approximately one or two items every month or so is actually a stolen piece of property. It may be a piece of jewelry, a television or computer, but the police always know if it’s stolen or not and they have the information on who pawned the item and they go and get them and return the item to its rightful owner.
Pawn shop dealers want people to know pawn shops are a safe place to receive cash for gold or purchase gold jewelry and other valuable items.
