Cloth Diapers Are Making a Comeback as Environmentally Conscious Parents Want To Save the Planet for Their Children
Articles, Environment, Health December 19th, 2009When a mother and father first become parents, something changes in them and they want to save the world for their newborn child. They become environmentally conscious and start recycling newspapers, bottles and aluminum cans. Perhaps the best thing they can do is switch from disposable diapers to cloth diapers not only for the environmental issues but also for the money they will save. Disposable diapers are so much more expensive than cloth diapers which can be reused again and again, saving a family thousands of dollars over a child’s time in diapers.
Cloth diapers are not like they used to be in which large diaper pins and ‘rubber pants’ had to be worn over the cloth diaper in order to keep the baby’s mess away from everything and contained within the cloth diapers. Today’s cloth diapers are stylish, made of 100 percent cotton and some have a flannel inside to help keep a baby’s bottom dry and warm.
Most of the new cloth diapers come with their own diaper cover built onto the cloth diapers so there is no need to buy an extra diaper cover, however some people do purchase diaper covers for nap time and for overnight.
In addition to the diaper covers, there are two types of diaper inserts that help to keep a baby’s skin clean and moisture free. One is a disposable pad that will help draw wetness away from their skin and once the diaper is opened, the pad is disposed of in a trash can or some can be flushed down the toilet. The other kind is a washable diaper insert which needs to be rinsed out and then washed with the rest of the soiled diapers.
The best cloth diapers are the all-in-one pocket type cloth diapers with stylish prints on the cloth and a poc
ket to place the diaper insert into so that it will not fall out or be moved around as the baby moves around. Plus, these types of diapers have a plastic coating on the outside so there is no need to order additional plastic covered diapers.
