Beach cruiser bikes for sale are an updated version of an old favorite loved by many including the baby boomers who rode them as children and love them even more as adults. The beach cruiser bicycles feature comfortable style, upright seating posture, balloon tires, straightforward steel construction and single-speed mechanics – although there are bicycles made with other speeds. Put all this together into an expressive style bicycle and you have one of the trendiest bikes on the roadways right now.

During The Great Depression, while bike sales were slumping sharply, the Schwinn Bicycle Company introduced the first beach bikes for sale which were mostly purchased by kids and young adults because bikes were considered a luxury for the purpose of sports or recreation, neither of which adults were participating in because they were out looking for work in order to feed their families.

Other bicycles being manufactured around the same time were the muscle bicycles with the banana seats and ape-hanger handlebars that are still seen on many motorcycles which were the inspiration for the bicycle handlebars, plus several years later the new BMX bike was born for off-road cycling and tricks, mostly for younger, teenage boys.

Schwinn had much competition in the beach cruiser bicycle department and to make their beach cruiser bikes more appealing to kids, many of these bicycle companies manufactured them to resemble various other forms of transportation. There was a motorcycle, a Donald Duck bike which included a quacking horn, the Gene Autry and Hopalong Cassidy bicycles featuring a capgun holster and fringed saddlebags and then Huffy’s version contained a large integrated AM radio which was also popular with the girls.

Many bike riders love to jump on their beach cruiser bikes and pedal away the stress of the day or week, riding along a trail or the sandy beach or boardwalk. Some of the beach cruisers are customized with cup holders and large baskets to hold everything from groceries to flowers to a picnic lunch or dinner.

Beach cruiser bikes come in a variety of colors and styles to accommodate both men and women and many people like their simplistic one speed and upright seating for a more comfortable ride.
